The next First-Friday practice will be at Hampstead Norreys on July 5th at 7:30: all welcome, but especially new Branch members.
Following the Ringing World suggestions, I will try and call some Original Doubles. Original is plain hunt, but with Bobs and Singles. For doubles, a Bob means you make 3rds instead of hunting from 3rds out to 4ths, and the bells in 4-5 dodge, instead of hunting. It’s like Grandsire. Unlike Grandsire, though, the call can come at any time and affect anyone, including the treble. The calls can come thick and fast, one after the other, just two blows apart, which is quite exciting!
At a Single make thirds just like you would for a Bob. If you are in fourth place (hunting in) make another blow in fourths and then go out. If you are in fifth place you are unaffected, just do your two blows in fifths and then go in.
The calls are called at the handstroke. You ring your next backstroke unaffected, but the call will then affect your next handstroke.
No-one ever makes seconds!
Hope that’s all clear!
The other RW suggestion is ringing rounds but with bells at alternate strokes, so we’ll try that as well, volunteers permitting.
All the normal methods, of course, plus St Clements, perhaps some easy Surprise…
Hope to see you there.
Martin
